Overview

What is The Archivist?

The Archivist is a browser-based recorder that captures voices, photos, and AI-detected relationships into a private archive your family owns forever.

Platform

Browser-based (desktop + mobile) with optional iOS/Android wrappers

Use cases

Family interviews, legacy recordings, photo context, memorial projects, diaspora storytelling

Data ownership

Export everything (audio, transcripts, photos, relationship timeline) whenever you want

How it works

1. Press record: The Archivist runs in your browser (mobile or desktop). The moment you start talking, it captures the audio and shows live captions.

2. AI listens for people and relationships: If granddad mentions “my brother Michael who moved to Dublin,” The Archivist suggests tagging Michael, adding an event, and linking any existing photos.

3. Everything stays inside a private archive you invite the family to. Roles let you choose who can edit, who can view, and which memories remain yours alone.

FAQs

Is The Archivist public or private?

Every archive is private by default. You invite the people you trust, assign roles, and can keep some memories to yourself while sharing others.

How is it different from FamilySearch or Ancestry?

Those services focus on records and public trees. The Archivist focuses on living memories, voice recordings, and AI-assisted transcripts inside a private archive.

Can I download my data?

Yes. You can export the raw audio, PDFs of transcripts, CSVs of people/events, and photo collections at any time.
